There HAS to be a more sustainable way to teach National History Day.
We've all wondered how that would look, and I bet these thoughts sound familiar, too:
I love NHD, but it consumes every spare minute.
I want to teach content AND historical inquiry skills.
I worry that not all my students are ready for NHD rigor.
I never seem to know what makes an NHD project a success.
I want to use the rubric to guide student learning and assessment.
No matter how much I plan, I still feel like my students are rushed with NHD.

Here's what we can do to help.
At NHD-CA, we've been sharing strategies for NHD teachers since 2016 through professional development workshops. We've developed a team of teacher leaders who have helped us produce resources for NHD teachers. We even launched Camp History Day in 2018.
The fall, Whitney Olson, NHD-CA Co-coordinator and curriculum developer, is bringing a new online course to teachers throughout the state. NHD Bootcamp: Strategies for Teaching Historical Inquiry in the Online Classroom incorporates the strategies and tips of our best PD with the deep dive of the camp experience.
