Youth Leadership Council
National History Day – California (NHD-CA) has launched its first-ever California History Day Youth Leadership Council, a student-led advisory and outreach group designed to elevate student voices and expand the impact of History Day statewide.
The Council is made up of
54 high school students representing 11 counties across California
all of whom have previously competed in NHD-CA and share a passion for research, historical inquiry, and leadership. T
ogether, they will represent the student experience, provide feedback to program organizers, mentor new participants, and lead workshops to help their peers succeed.
MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
The NHDCA YLC Mentorship Program is a new program designed to connect experienced National History Day competitors with first-time participants to provide guidance, feedback, and encouragement throughout the historical research process.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
- First-time NHD participants
- Currently in elementary or middle school
WHO ARE THE MENTORS
- High school students with several years of experience
- High-achieving competitors previously placing as
- finalists at State and National competitions

A Letter of Intent must address the following

Based on your historical research, what real-world problem would you like to address?

How do multiple perspectives shape the real-world problem? What are the different perspectives? Who are potential stakeholders?

How did your research demonstrate the long term impacts of the real-world problem?

How do you see your real-world problem being impacted by systems of power and governments?
